Amazing artwork

I can’t resist sharing this astonishing artwork with you which I came across on the BBC website earlier today. This 11-year old is clearly incredibly talented. The drawing above is called ‘Daily Bread’.  I hope it inspires you! Click on the image to see the video and learn more about this astonishing young artist.

Portrait by Eagle5

One of our homework challenge choices was to create a portrait of someone special and explain why this person was important. Eagle5 has kindly agreed to share this fantastic portrait of her Dad. Screen Shot 2017-11-16 at 19.19.17

Printing cushions

IMG_0244We have been busy designing, printing and sewing cushion covers.bb

We had to think carefully about the techniques we used and how to build up the colours. Some of us used block printing and others made stencils to add different layers. The results were really impressive and we are very proud of our work!

Here are a few examples we managed to photograph:

VE-Day celebrations

IMG_1561Just before the end of the term, we held our ‘VE-Day party’. We dressed up in WW2 clothes and did some WW2 maths. We also had a PT lesson doing drill and found out what it was like to hear an air raid siren. We had to have our gas mask boxes and our ID cards with us all day. In the afternoon we tried some ration food like apple cake made from dried egg and fallen apples from a neighbour’s tree. We also tried spam, corned beef and haslet sandwiches and some of us were brave enough to try home-made carrot jam! We also learned about the last months of the war and why the war was not over properly on VE Day.

Wire and plaster sculptures

The swimmer

Following our work on Henry Moore, we experimented with wire and plaster to create sculptures of people in a range of positions. Most of us chose to work on sports sculptures. We worked hard to think about body shapes and about how to make the sculpture balance and stand up.

Our amazing light photography

globeWe had a lot of fun tonight experimenting with light and dark to create light paintings. With a slow shutter speed (between 15 and 25 seconds) on the camera in a dark classroom, we painted pictures with glowsticks and torches. We gradually learned that the slower we moved the clearer the image. Well done everyone who had a go tonight! Hope you like seeing some examples of your work.

Henry Moore

moore points sculpture

We have started finding out about Henry Moore, his sculptures and his underground war drawings.

This week we will be experimenting with wax and paint to try out his underground war drawing technique (called sgraffito). This picture of a woman in an underground station sheltering in an air-raid is one we will be looking at more.
