Wire sculptures
As part of our artwork on movement, we tried to produce sculptures showing movement. This was a tricky challenge as the wire was not easy to control. We are now thinking about how to display our work to get the full effect of the work.

Ice dyeing
We had a go at ice dyeing for the first time last week. We had wanted to try it when we were working on Shackleton but ran out of time. This week, we finally got the chance. The dye powder was sprinkled over the ice and slowly absorbed into the cloth. All of us were surprised by the fact that it took all day for the ice to melt.
We were pretty impressed with the results and would definitely try it again.

Henry Moore, ‘Underground Drawings’
As part of our WW2 work, we studied Henry Moore’s Underground drawings and experimented with the methods he used (using ink, wax and colour wash). Now that the work has come down from the walls, we have been able to photograph some examples and can share them here. The effects were very effective and we thought carefully about how to use line and shade in our work. It is interesting to know that Henry Moore sketched his work using materials he bought from Woolworths so he did not have any more ‘professional’ art materials than we did!

Recycled plastic sea-life sculptures
Here is the link to the plastic sculptures we discussed the other day. Click on the image to the left to see a BBC Newsround clip featuring the work of recycled plastic sculptor Angela Pozzi. She works with a team in the USA to collect plastic waste from beaches and then use them to create amazing, enormous sculptures of sea creatures.
More can be found out about Angela Pozzi’s ‘Washed Ashore’ project by clicking on the shark below.

Optical illusions
We’ve been exploring optical illusions in art and have tried to create some of our own. Some of them work best looked at from a distance in the classroom, but these illusions transfer quite well to a screen. They are 2D drawings that are made to create the illusion of 3D ‘holes’.
